SAFE!! SD, Sioux Falls "Faith" Blind Heeler Mix

She is so adorable!! com We have a pup here at the shelter that really needs a rescue. We have named her Faith. She is approx. 7-8 weeks of age. We think she is a Heeler mix. She came in as a stray. She was found in the country off the road and was brought to the shelter. We took her to the vet and had her looked at. My understanding at this point from the vet is that she is blind. We have no idea if she was born this way or if she had some sort of trauma. She is able to find her food and stuff in her kennel. But we do not believe that she has any sight at this point. I can send the vet records from her exam if anyone needs further medical information. The vet did not think that she was in any pain. She is a sweetheart and so young that we are really hoping that she can find someone to help her!! SAFE!!AL, Mobile One eyed Husky "Dakota" needs furever home

Dakota has been in the rescue for a while now. She was adopted and her owner turned her in because she was getting out of his privacy fence. She is about 3 yrs old. Her eye had to be removed when her previous owner decided they didn't want her anymore and they took her chain off and stopped feeding her. They were hoping that she would leave but instead she knew it was her home and became hungry and started killing the chickens so she wouldn't starve to death. The owner and his wife, shot Dakota in the foot and beat her in the eye with a pipe until her eye was gone. Dakota ran to a neighbors house ( in a trailer park) and stayed there. "Lost Without You" wasn't made aware of the situation for days and by then everyone decided to it was better for them to "Not be involved". By the way Dakota's previous owner was a pastor and his wife. A limousine sits at their house 24/7. GO FIGURE! Lost Without You got Dakota's eye removed. She is spayed and has all of her shots. She does well with some dogs and some she doesn't. She is not good with cats. She does not like anyone touching her hips. She has not been around kids a lot.

SAFE URGENT//Atlanta, Blind Senior maltese mix Male needs medical attention

Can anyone help this poor little blind senior?? Please let me know ASAP! Yesterday, a small white dog showed up at our house. He is older and blind and I’m sure he has other conditions as well. I cannot afford to keep him and I simply don’t have the time to care for him. Do you have any suggestions? I think this little white dog is a maltese, havanese, or poodle mix. He has cataracts in both eyes and he has severe ear problems. He is a very sweet dog and just wants some where to be warm so he can cuddle down. URGENT!! KY: "Darla", Partially Blind Doxie with puppies

Rescuers:

Please meet Darla and her puppies. Darla has a misshapen eye which happened at birth. She also does not walk well, she has some neurological issues with her hind leg. She is the saddest, but sweetest little girl ever.

We have had to leave her with her owners because of overcrowding and lack of space. If you will look at the background you can see what she is living in. It is not good and I want to move her like yesterday.

Please, please.....commit to taking her so I can get her out of that garbage dump. I have met Darla and she is a total love.....I would so appreciate it if someone would step up for her. Thank you.

SAFE!! URGENT!! MN, St. James: "Sandy Mae", Blind Lab

3/30/11: Update for Sandy Mae, a blind black lab who I originally posted to everyone on March 6th. I just got an update that her owners are making an appointment to have her put down as they can't keep her. Please spread the word about her. She is a beautiful black lab who deserves a better life than she's been given.

Sandy Mae was born July 2009. She is still living with her family. They do not feel that they have the time to give her that she needs. Got another dog from them a few years ago at about the same age for the same reason. Big kitten in the picture will probably be gone in a year also. Sandy liked the kitten but the kitten did not really like Sandy.
Paid a breeder $200 for sandy. She was the runt of the litter and is still very small, around 30 pounds.. When they took her to be spayed in Feb 2010 the vet told them that she was blind. Breeder said that he would take her back but they were afraid that he would kill her. Breeder refunded $100. Up to that point they thought she was just a puppy bumping into things. There was another small dog in a crate on the porch. They have been together outside. They let them out the door to do their business and they come right back. Live right next to a busy street.

When we went inside, they said that Sandy is not used to being in the house. Sandy went from person to person and even me the stranger looking for attention. Very sweet dog. They said that she jumps but she did not do so while I was there. When nice out they tie her outside but right now that crate is her life. When I left she went back in the crate. She really needs a new home.

An older dog with a disability frequently gets overlooked in a crowded shelter, and we are hoping to find rescue for this very deserving dog. PULL FEE PAID

FL, Boca Raton: "ChowChow", Paritallty Blind & Deaf Chow Chow

can you pass along to see if i can get help w this guy:
ChowChow (cleverly named) was found wandering the streets of S. Florida in May of last year. It is thought that he was wandering for ten years!!! Yes, ten years! people had seen him, and even managed to get him into their yards before calling Animal Control and by the time they showed up-POOF he was gone. With a leathery back and literally no fur,(see pictures) it was clear he had been out in the sun and storms for many years.
Well we did manage to get him finally and get him neutered and vetted (healthy ol' lad he is) and tried to find him a home. We learned he is mostly deaf and mostly blind and mostly a love of a bear who LOVES back rubs and attention.
Fast Forward to now- he has a puppy haircut, a FULL body of luscious fur and is a cuddle bear- actually, he looks like a muppet! We flew him out to the sanctuary in Colorado www.rescuerehabhome.org where we hoped he'd have all he could ever want! Freedom, and still , warm meals every day- NOPE- he can climb our 4 foot fences and does so regularly! its just too dangerous for him- our fences have kept all our dogs close to home but we THINK that since hes mostly blind and deaf, he walks the wrong way once he topples over the fence and its just too risky for him. We are sending him back to Florida ASAP-
He needs a home and a leash :) He is very healthy with no health issues at all and will like to sleep a LOT, BUT he does like his affection and play time in short sessions too and will offer a very lucky family a very loving dog!
Does anyone want a muppet to love for a few years ???

URGENT!! PA, Ulster: "Tyson" Blind Rottie Mix

Tyson is a young rottie mix, about a year old, not altered, about 55 pounds. He was hit by a car. A good samaritan witnessed him getting hit and brought him to the local vet, who thought he had a fractured pelvis. At that point, they said he could see. The local vet then brought him to the Humane Society. 24 hours later, he was blind! He walks "funny in the back end - wiggly", but does not have a fractured pelvis. They think possible head trauma?

They've had him about two weeks. He's very happy, a good boy, you can play with his mouth, give him pills, and he'll put his front legs up to get into a car. He's good with other dogs. They don't want to put him down, but are concerned that he'll be hard to place...They don't have a time limit to place him, but are hoping to place him as soon as possible before they have to make the decision. They have 34 dogs there.

TN, Franklin: "Holly", Partiallty Blind GSD/Golden Retriever mix

Please take a moment to read the message and look at Holly's picture. She is a senior girl in the Williamson County Animal Shelter in Tennessee. This senior girl is partially blind but other than that her health is great. Affectionate, great with people, utd on all vaccines, spayed and heartworm negative.....the only thing she is missing is a forever home. Please don't let her stay in the shelter. Pass her information along to anyone you know especially those interested in senior sweethearts.

HOLLY is such a gentle and sweet senior! She is ten years old and is a German Shepherd/Golden Retriever mix. Holly is housebroken and walks well on a leash.

She has such a calm, friendly and good-natured personality. Holly is an affectionate dog who loves being petted. She is partially blind, but responds very well to sound.

Holly is great with people of all ages, but would do best in a quiet home with older children. She is heartworm negative, spayed and current on all her vaccinations.

Holly will be microchipped prior to leaving the shelter.

An older dog with a disability frequently gets overlooked in a crowded shelter, and we are hoping to find a rescue for this very deserving dog.

Please save Holly by crossposting on her behalf and contacting me at kmenzyk@yahoo.com if you can help! PULL FEE PAID

SAFE!! URGENT!! MI, Musketgon: Blind Treeing Walker Hound

This urgent fellow is in a shelter in Musketgon, MI. His time was almost up but he managed to escape being pts as Barb was told about BDRA thru Kelly, a dog groomer and transport person in Livonia, WI. I posted his information out and thought he was going to a rescue but a couple of adoptions fell thru at the rescue and he is still stuck in the shelter in Muskegon. Pound Buddies Rescue has a contract with the city there and runs the shelter so Walker (that is what i've named him as no one calls him by a name) still is in dire need of rescue. He is heartworm negative, has seen a vet for his eyes which they diagnosed as blindness due to some kind of nerve damage. Does well with other dogs, is not animal aggressive or food aggressive. He has been tested and done well on every test for his temperament. Walker is a sweet boy who i've been trying to save but now we are back at square one. Please post his information out to as many people as you know, facebook, etc. He does not have much time left to live if he is not out of the shelter soon.

My name is Barb Lyons and I am the Rescue Coordinator for Pound Buddies Rescue here in Muskegon, MI.
I have a blind treeing walker hound about 4-5 years old at a glance. He may see shadows. Is very outgoing and sure of himself so must have been blind for awhile at least. Climbed into my lap so I must have smelled okay! He is very sweet but truth is space is at a premium here-no open large cages- and I have to make decsions. He was picked up as a stray and was never claimed by an owner. We are willing to get him into the vet and see what they can tell us and also get some vetting done if needed. Please advise.

EXTREMELY URGENT!! TN, Knoxville: Blind Pointer

(NO PICTURES AVAILABLE)

Please see the below information about a woman who has emailed and also called about a blind dog who fell into her pool and who she tried to help but he was taken away by animal control and is due to be pts on Friday morning. There are no pictures of him. Please forward his information to who ever you know that could possibly help this poor fellow.

I just spoke to Heather, the woman whose pool this dog fell into. She said a blind dog was roaming her neighborhood so she took him into her back yard which is fenced and she has a pool...fence is around the pool. She wanted to keep him contained. At first she thought he was going into the water because he wanted to but then he kept walking right over and falling into the pool. She said he might see a little. She tried keeping him in her garage. She has two dogs...one is very dog aggressive and the other is people aggressive...they are together because she adopted both of them together. Anyway, she tried keeping him in her garage and he barked and barked. She went out and spent about 4 hours with him the first night he was there but then went into the house...and again the barking started. He barked so much her neighbors called animal control. She could not keep him or bring him in the house because of her aggressive dog. She said when she laid in the garage with him he came over to her and put his head on her hand and laid with her that way. When animal control took him away he turned back and looked as if to say what is happening..cried when put into the animal control truck. Heather is beside herself as he is set to be pts on Friday morning. The shelter will not put him out for adoption after the stray hold is up because he is older and blind/visually impaired. She said you can see his eyes are clouded. He is a handsome bird dog...black and white pointer. He is very sweet and just wants to be near someone. Had a collar on but no tags. Heather has asked that we use her as the contact. Her phone number is 865-661-3343 . Her email address is h.alicia1@hotmail.com . She is willing to pay all of his vet bills, pull fees from the shelter and pay to put him on a transport to get him to safety. This poor fellow is in the Young Williams Shelter in Knoxville, TN. She did not get a chance to take pics of him. She had to let him go when animal control came.
Heather is very upset as she has rescued all of her pets and would never give her animals to the shelter. Sounds like a very nice lady.

SAFE!! URGENT!! IN, Brazil: Blind Bloodhound

3/15/11: "no a rescue didnt come forward and this poor guy is still at the shelter."

2/23/11: Hi My name is Stacy Trusty-Dotson. I am a volunteer at a humane shelter in Brazil, IN. We currently have a blind bloodhound. He was found in a ditch by a couple of boys after he had been attacked by another dog. At first we thought he just had entropion, took him to an eye specialist in Indianapolis and they determined that he was blind. His eyes are pretty milky and clouded over. Lord knows how long his previous owners let him go uncared for. Our intent was to have the laser surgery to correct the entropion, but with the blindness issue, the doctor suggested having his eyes removed. We have several opinions as far as "is that a good thing or not" "he is in pain", etc. We are a non-profit, no kill shelter and money is very tight. I have raised a little toward his condition but really at a loss as to which direction to go with it. I do not feel like we can do him justice or have the experience to know who would make a good parent for him. I have attached a picture. Many thanks! Stacy He is a super sweet dog that has had a rough life. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Contact: Clay County Humane Society stacyjt1@yahoo.com 812-446-5126

URGENT!! MD: "Petey", Partially Blind Toy Poodle

Transport is available - Let me know if you need me to organize a transport/relay for you! snifflesbichon@live.com

Hello All;

We are looking for a foster home for a very special little guy. His name is Petey, and he is a 6 pound toy poodle with one eye. He is 4 years old. He was rescued from a local shelter in December. He had been there for 1 month, and was going to be euthanized because he had what they thought was Micropthalmia.
We had him seen by a vet, and it actually was a ruptured eye ball from an injury. He was in terrible pain. He had an extensive eye exam, and the other eye is fine. We paid for him to have the eye removed and sutured shut, and he was neutered and brought up to date on all shots.

He does not like to go out in the rain, but besides that is fully potty trained. He prefers to go out and do his business, not on a leash. Here we have a small fenced in yard.

He likes older kids but not little ones. He will run from them but has never tried to hurt them. He likes a more quite environment. He is very, very snuggly, and a total lap boy. He is low energy and sleeps about 20 hours per day. He is pretty undemanding, he likes his food and his warm bed in his crate. He comes out for about 3 hours a day to wander around or sit on the couch. He runs from noise and is a little shy. He is better with one or two people instead of a whole family.

I think the root of his issues is he must have been used in some backyard breeder program, where he lived in a crate, and then was dumped when he sustained an eye injury. Despite a bad start he is very loving, loves other dogs and cats and does much better with them around.

I have attached his picture.

If you know of a Poodle lover or someone who likes little guys and has a couple of other please, please have them contact me. I would keep him with me, but I have a very ill mother in law, and things are difficult right now.

Subject: EXTREMELY URGENT....American Bull Dog Blind in One Eye to be PTS on March 22nd....please don't let this happen!

Hello All,

I'm writing to you about an American Bulldog name Bull. He is in the City of Lafayette Animal Shelter in Lafayette, Tennessee. Bull's story is pretty much the same that we always hear about dogs being turned into the shelter or being a stray except that Bull has found a caring angel, Officer ReJena Parker. She has taken a special interest in Bull and wants desperately to get him out of the shelter and into a rescue or better yet a loving home. As we have not been able to find a foster for him, I promised Officer Parker that I would help her to spread the word about Bull so that someone out there having the facility or ability to foster him would step forward to save his life. That is another problem, two days after writing to us about Bull's situation Officer Parker was told that he only has until the 22nd of this month to find rescue or he will be put to sleep. And that is what Bull needs, to be taken into a rescue. He is blind in one eye and has limited vision in the other but that does not stop him from being a loving, happy boy. Please read Officer Parker's own words about Bull in her emails below. If there is a chance that you could offer him rescue and the opportunity to begin his journey onto a new life to be a loving pet for someone please call Officer Parker. She has provided her home and cell phone numbers and is the contact for Bull. Home phone number is 931-258-3050 and cell number is 423-278-4622. If there is no answer on one please try the other. If you can't help but know someone who may be able to save Bull's life please pass this information along to them as soon as possible. There is not much time until the 22nd!

Please take a moment of your time to read Officer Parker's messages below and to look at the pictures of Bull.

I thank you for any and all consideration you may be able to give to him.

Bull is a bull dog, male, 2 yrs old, blind in one eye. He came to the shelter (Lafayette, Tn.) 2 days ago. The shelter here is a kill shelter. I am a police officer here. I saw Bull when I was at the shelter. He is a
great dog,. Kid friendly, plays, loving and extremely kind. If you folks could help me get him into a shelter I would certainly appreciate. I am not an animal control officer, however I can stand to see him put down. He is full of love.
