Here's a very handsome bulldog mix in Arizona who is looking for rescue!!!
My name is Carrie Hester, and I am the New Hope/Foster Care Coordinator for Yavapai Humane Society in Prescott, Az. We have a 2 year old American Bulldog Mix who is visually impaired. We believe he can see shadows and shapes, but we aren’t sure. I am doing everything I can think of to get his story out there.
This dog is loving and friend...ly in spite of his limited vision. Yen came to us as a stray and it has since become apparent that he can only see shadows and shapes. He showed no reaction to a slow approach of another dog a few inches away through the fence and seemed to be primarily using his sense of smell, continuing to search all around his face. His demeanor has changed since he first came, from being reactive to staff entering his kennel to backing up and avoiding, and now is warm, social and loving to those he is familiar with. As seen in his terrific video, when meeting with a friendly dog, Yen reacts excitedly and wags his tail the duration of the visit through the barrier! He sits on command and will chase the shape of a ball too. As Yen continues to warm up and get accustomed to his surroundings, you can see more of his fun and sweet personality! He is a great pet for that patient, devoted someone who understands visually impaired dogs and can provide Yen with a safe, predictable environment. Please read about him and see his video.
When we did a temperament test on Yen, if we brought another dog right up to the fence to him he got reactive, but when it was from a distance he was fine. Probably because he couldn’t see them. He isn’t neutered yet, but he would be before he left us. He came in to us as a stray, so we don’t know if he is housebroken. He is a very nervous boy(he looks worried all the time), so I don’t think young children would be a good idea, but older children would most likely be OK. We have estimated his age at 2 years old. He is super sweet to people! He alternates between pulling on a leash and staying so close to you that he becomes a tripping hazard.
He is safe here for now, but I honestly don’t know for how long. We do not have a PTS date for him as of yet.

Hi Marilyn,
ReplyDeleteThanks for spreading the word about Yen, but as the email from Carrie clearly states at the bottom, there is NO PTS DATE. We are proud of our no-kill ethic (YHS has a live release rate of 96%, the safest shelter in Arizona!) and would hate for folks new to Yavapai Humane Society to get conflicting information about this fantastic pooch.
Can you please edit this post and remove the PTS date of 4/4 as it is absolutely untrue?
Thanks!

We took it out, we saw it being posted around facebook that he had only til 4/4 and was worried. Please let us know if anything changes please. I would love to see the poor sweety get into a loving home soon.
ReplyDeleteOn the 12 th line in this listing, you have that on 4/4 if not rescued he'll be destroyed. If there is no kill date, might wanna edit this listing.I hope someone adopts this baby! I wish i could but I have small kids as well as other pets.
